Kalesa

This is a horse-driven carriage used in the Philippines called Kalesa or Karitela. This was one of the modes of transportation introduced in the Philippines in the 18th century.

The word Calesa predates the Spanish conquest and descends ultimately from an Old Church Slavonic word meaning "wheels." They are rarely used in the streets nowadays except in tourist spots and some rural areas.

This was taken beside the Manila Cathedral at Intramuros, Manila during our Photo walk. I'm so overwhelmed by the sight of it.
